Paul Holmes MP and Friends of the Earth Demonstrate at East Midlands Airport against Gordon Brown's Climate Change Bill.

Paul Holmes MP and Friends of the Earth held a demonstration at East Midlands Airport last Saturday to highlight the gaping holes in Gordon Brown's Climate Change Bill.

Paul said, "The Bill is a step forward but everyone fears that it will turn out to be yet more Government 'Hot Air' rather than real action to tackle global warming."

"It completely leaves out carbon pollution from Aviation and Shipping yet these are two of the fastest growing areas of new pollution."

"It only sets a target of 60% reductions in carbon pollution by 2050 when all the scientific studies, such as the Governments own Stern Report, say that a minimum of 80% cuts should be the target. When the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords proposed 80% Labour MP's rejected it. The Tories, for all Cameron's claims to be environmentalists, refused to support the Liberal Democrat proposal."

"Gordon also wants to set 5 year targets for cuts in pollution -which means that no government would ever be held to account as elections are usually every 4 years!"

"It makes no sense to accept the findings of all reputable scientists about Global Warming, but then pass a half hearted measure into law. Gordon must strengthen the Climate Change Bill rather than dithering indecisively."
